Obituary for Linda Champion
Linda Champion lost her courageous battle with cancer on April 2, 2017 at Clinton Aire Nursing Care Center. She was 64 years of age.
A lifelong resident of Fraser, Linda was born on October 10, 1952, the second daughter of the late Bertram and Evelyn (nee Orth-McMurray) Champion. She attended Oakland University earning a B.A. in English Education; and Wayne State University, where she earned her MSLS. Her interest in special library populations led her to earn a certificate in gerontology from a joint program through the University of Michigan and Wayne State. Linda's entire career was spent at Macomb County Library, working in a number of different positions. She was most proud of being the director of the Macomb Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped from 1989 to 2000, assisting patrons with visual, physical and auditory impairments. Her passion for this position led her to learn American Sign Language. She directed the automation of the Macomb LBPH through the National Library for the Blind system, creating ideas and better services. She attended state and nationwide conferences to bring new ideas and better services back to her department. Linda earned several NACO (National Association of Counties) awards for innovative programming and services. Linda served her community by her appointments to the Fraser Historical Commission, and the Fraser Library Board. She also served her profession by sharing and teaching her vision of top-notch library service for all patrons.
A worldwide traveler, Linda visited Russia, the Caribbean Islands, Iceland and many, many points in between. Asked to pick a favorite, she chose Russia for its unique architecture and lifestyle, but stated "every place I went there was something new and wonderful to see."
Linda attended numerous local theater productions and music performances. Linda was also an avid collector of anything with Scotty dogs, Betty Boop and peacocks.
Linda is survived by her older sister, Kay Champion. She will be greatly missed by her many, many friends throughout the United States.
Her wonderful spirit, joy and talents will be celebrated at Faulmann & Walsh Golden Rule Funeral Home, 32814 Utica Road, Fraser, MI on Wednesday from 3pm - 8pm and Thursday 10am until the time of funeral at 11am.
