Charles Edward Roberts, of East Detroit and then St. Clair Shores, passed away on December 24, 2017 surrounded by his family. He was 77 years of age.
Charles was born on August 9, 1940 in Detroit, Michigan. Son of the late James and Allene (Williams) Roberts and big brother to the late Sue Ellen Peebles and James Daniel (Dan) Roberts. He served our country honorably in the U.S. Army. He worked his way through Wayne State University where he achieved his bachelors in Journalism. He went on and earned his Master Degree in Social Work from the University of Iowa. Charles was the proud creator and small business owner of Community Resource Consultants, Inc. for 30 years.
Charles was a strong activist in his career and democratic politics. He created and helped lead the Detroit Chapter of The Brain Injury Association of Michigan. He rebuilt the St. Clair Shores Democratic Club and served as the Chair for many years supporting various campaigns and democratic efforts. He was a proud democrat. Charles was a longtime member of The Players Club of Detroit. A proud and talented actor and director, he graced the stage in over 30 performances and directed over 30 plays spanning 25 plus seasons. He also was very active in community theater over many years.
Charles was creative, cultured, and had a deep commitment to justice and helping others.
Above all, he loved his children and adored his grandchildren. Charles is the beloved father of Tobias (Rachel) and Sarah; and cherished grandfather of Braeden and Madeline.
A memorial gathering will be held at Faulmann & Walsh Golden Rule Funeral Home, 32814 Utica Road, Fraser, on Saturday, January 6, 2017, from 10 am – 1 pm. A celebration service will be at 1 pm followed by military honors.
