Obituary for Elizabeth Schaetz
Elizabeth B. Schaetz (nee Ortman), a resident of Sterling Heights, passed away surrounded by the love of her family on Friday, March 9, 2018. She was 98 years old.
Elizabeth was born in Detroit on January 12, 1920 to John and Barabara (nee Zenzer) Ortman. She married her beloved husband, Gergory Schaetz in Detroit on October 2, 1948. The couple made their first home in Detroit before moving to Warren for many years. Elizabeth worked for over 45 years as a legal secretary for William Caswell and the Norwegian Consulate in Detroit. She completely retired in 1995. Being a very active woman, she played many sports as a young lady and later enjoyed bowling and golfing at Maple Lane. Before her beloved husband's passing, she loved to host parties in her home for friends and family. Being a strong woman of faith, prayer and church were very important and she attended Mass every day until she was no longer able to. She was also very active in the Stephen ministry of her church. Above all, she deeply loved her family and was truly someone who lived each day to it's fullest. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Elizabeth is survived by her loving daughter, Bette Rose Schaetz; beloved grandchildren, Steven (Kelly) Konieczki, Emily Konieczki, Gabriel (Shannon) Konieczki, and Betsey (Tim) Rheaume; and seven cherished great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband on June 29, 1996, and twin sister Rose and brother John.
Visitation will take place on Monday, March 12, 2018 from 2-8pm at the Faulmann & Walsh Golden Rule Funeral Home, 32814 Utica Road, Fraser, Michigan 48026 with a Rosary service at 3pm and a Scripture service at 7:30pm. A funeral Mass will be celebrated by Fr. Roman Pasieczny at St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church in Warren on Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at 9:30am with instate beginning at 9am. Internment at White Chapel Memorial Park Cemetery in Troy.
