Obituary for Jean Klein

Jean Klein
Jean Klein, resident of Kalamazoo, former longtime resident of Fraser, died peacefully surrounded by the love of her family on March 10, 2018. She was 84 years of age.

Jean was born on July 6, 1933 in Detroit, Michigan, daughter of the late John and Nedra Inez (Ireland) Dobies. She was a 1951 graduate of Fraser High School. Shortly after graduation, Jean married her high school sweetheart, Kenneth Theodore Klein, on May 10, 1952 and the two remained happily married for 58 years. The couple made their home in Fraser and were blessed with three beautiful daughters whom they loved and cherished. Jean provided a loving home for her family. She also worked outside of the home as a bookkeeper for many years, retiring in 1991 from Grant Industries of Fraser. After the couple’s retirement, they made their summer home in Michigan on Lake Metamora and were "snow birds" during the colder months in North Port, Florida. Jean and Ken also traveled after retirement to the far corners of the U.S.A. as well as to Canada and Europe. Jean was an avid reader who enjoyed sewing and many types of crafts, but her passion was quilting and her quilts were beautiful and one of a kind. Among her creations were 17 baby quilts which were meant for her grandchildren when they started their own families. Jean enjoyed all things little; little dogs, little children, and even little bon sai trees. Her love of tiny things lead her into the making of miniatures which she used in shadow boxes and Christmas decorations. She also built a doll house for one of her granddaughters and filled it with miniature furniture which she had made herself. To know Jean was to love her. She was known for her sweet kindred spirit and her loving and gentle ways. The compassion and friendship she extended was a blessing to all. Jean will be deeply missed and her light will continue to glow in our hearts forever.

Jean is the devoted wife of the late Kenneth; dearest mother of Denise (John Vandeloo) Klein, Carrie (David Dark) Klein and the late Pamela (Bruce Hetrick) Klein; cherished grandmother of Austin (Katelyn Durkin) Hetrick, Zachary (Helene) Hetrick, Calandra (Nate Hammond) Brooks-Hammond, Rachel Brooks, and Alex, Eric and Shannon Dark; and beloved sister of Judy Dover.

Visitation will be held at Faulmann & Walsh Golden Rule Funeral Home, 32814 Utica Road, Fraser, Thursday from 2pm - 8pm and Friday from 10am until the time of funeral at 11am. Memorials may be addressed to the Pam Klein Memorial Scholarship Fund, Central Michigan University, Department of Journalism, St. Jude's Children Hospital or Hospice of Southwest Michigan.
