Here are a few of my favorite memories of growing up with my Uncle Fred: Trips to Flat Rock Speedway with him and Steve to watch Figure Eight and ARCA racing, followed by a long late night ride home with him listening to WJR’s Night Flight 760 (although I never understood how he stayed awake listening to that!). Summer parties in the backyard of the house on Ursuline with lots of bratwurst, bean salad, pop for the kids and beer for the grown-ups. The time he took his orange Dodge Challenger muscle car up to 80 mph on I-94 so that we could see what it was like. Boat trips to Strawberry Island on some of the hottest days of the Summer - In my memory those trips always ended with a terrifying, yet exhilarating, ride home below deck after a thunderstorm rolled in. When we reached the dock, my Dad and Uncle Fred would be drenched and exhausted, while we kids would be fresh and ready to go.

I think the one word that best fits Uncle Fred is “Raconteur”. He loved to tell stories, either from his experience, or someone else’s. I will miss them.

Although we are cousins I thought of him as a brother. Fred was always caring and supportive of my endeavors. We had many happy times together from phones calls to dinners. We will truly miss him. RIP Fred.
