Rosella Shirley Rankine, longtime resident of Fraser, died peacefully in her sleep, after a great day of visiting friends and fellowship at her church, on February 24, 2020. She was 99 years of age.

Rosie was born on September 15, 1920 in Detroit, Michigan, daughter of Herman Albert and Rose Caroline (Koppitz) Rosenbusch. Rosella was a 1940 graduate of Detroit Business University. She worked in payroll at Acme White Lead and Color Works for 10 dedicated years. Rosella was united in marriage to her beloved husband, Thomas Rankine on July 9, 1966. She worked, alongside her husband, for Rankine Accounting Service for many years. After her husband's death, she moved to Fraser, Michigan. Rosella loved music and belonged to the Guyton Chorus, Faith Lutheran Church Choir, The Grosse Pointe Theater and The Grosse Pointe War Memorial. She was also a devoted Detroit Tiger's fan. Above all, she was a social butterfly who made everyone smile. She just enjoyed people and loved children. Everyone not only enjoyed her company but her cookies that she would always give to us. Rosella made everyone feel special and led her life by example with love, compassion and purpose. She will be deeply missed and her light will continue to glow in our hearts forever.

Rosella is the loving wife of the late Thomas; dearest step-mother of the late Shirley Florence Schmitke; cherished grandmother of Kevin Schmitke, Keith (Karey) Schmitke and Kathy (Douglas) Van Gorder; and their eleven children, dear sister of the late Elsa Emily, Herman, Richard and Robert Rosenbusch; beloved aunt of Carole (Christopher) Olewnik, Ruth (Felix) Martinez, Rhea Rosenbusch, Kristeen (Ken Limina) Rosenbusch, Carl (Denise) Rosenbusch, Richard Rosenbusch, Roger (Randy) Rosenbusch and the late Robert Rosenbusch ; great aunt to many; and blessed friend to many.

A memorial gathering will take place Friday, March 13th, 2020, from 10am until the time of service at 11am at Hope Untied Church of Christ. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be addressed to Hope Untied Church of Christ, 35127 Garfield, Clinton Township, MI 48025. Share memories at

Rosie was a ray of sunshine wherever she went. She adopted all of us at Frase Automotive, where she had her automobile serviced. Many times we enjoyed her wonderful homemade cookies. I am sure living alone was not the easiest for her and yet she was always upbeat. She will be remembered warmly by all who knew her.

I was privileged to meet Rosella after the passing of Robert, through her nieces Ruth and Rhea. She was a warm and welcoming lady who taught me to play Spite & Malice and was always ready with cookies. She will be missed.

My Aunt Rosella was a kind and loving person. She never forgot my birthday , no matter where in the world I may have been. I was fortunate enough to be able to visit her regularly during my visits to Michigan. We always had a great gabfest! She will be missed by all who knew her.
