Irma was born in Fraser, Michigan on October 20, 1919, daughter of the late Edwin and Emma (Eberlein) Deierlein. She was united in marriage to her beloved husband, Arnold Schurig, on September 15, 1946 in St. John Lutheran Church. Their union was blessed with four beautiful children of whom she loved and cherished. Irma dedicated her life to the Lord and her family and was a devoted wife, great mother and wonderful grandmother. Her family always came first and she made sure her children were raised with Christian values in a loving home. As the children grew older and started to have their own families, Irma made sure that Sunday dinners were held. She adored her grandchildren and enjoyed every moment shared in their company. Irma always thought of others before her own needs and helped where needed. A perfect example of her unconditional love, was when she insisted to be her grandsons bone marrow donor. Irma was also an example at church where she was very active. She was involved with the Missionary League, Ladies Auxiliary, 55+ Club, and LWML. She also taught Sunday School for many years and sang in the choir. In 1984, she was nominated Woman of the Year by our congregation. Irma was very crafty and enjoyed cross stitch. She also enjoyed traveling. Above all, Irma was a strong and loving woman, who will be deeply missed by all. Her light will continue to glow in our hearts forever.
Irma is the devoted wife of the late Arnold; dearest mother of Gregory (June) Schurig, Douglas (Donna) Schurig, Cynthia (Ron) Farthing and Janis (Jim) Pompo; cherished grandmother of Jennifer (Tony) Dykhouse, Greg Schurig, Kristen (Tom) Schoen, Ryan Schurig, Lauren (Dave) Gies, Devin Farthing, Kelsey Farthing, Jordyn (Justin) Kaines and the late Joey Pompo; dear great grandmother of Liam, Ashlyn, Tommy, Luke and Rhett; and beloved sister of the late Roland and Gordon Deierlein.
