James Joseph Shereda Sr., longtime resident of Fraser, died peacefully December 11, 2018 surrounded by the love of his family. He was 78 years of age.

James was born in Detroit, Michigan on February 17, 1940, son of the late Isadore and Margaret (Nowak) Shereda. He was united in marriage to his beloved wife, Barbara Ann Czajka, on April 29, 1961 in St. Raymond Catholic Church in Detroit. The couple lived in Detroit until making their home in Fraser in 1963. The couple was blessed with four beautiful children of whom he loved and cherished. James co-founded with Barb the QMI Group Inc. of Madison Heights in 1978. James was very active in the community with volunteer work and at his church. Looking where he could help, he volunteered with the St. Vincent de Paul Society, enjoyed singing in the church choir and he was very instrumental in the Credit Union Movement.

To know James was to love him. He understood the true value of friendship and extended his love and help whenever needed. James enjoyed traveling with his wife and looked forward to the next cruise. He was a family man who enjoyed spending quality time with his grandchildren. Although we grieve his passing, we are truly grateful for James who has taught us to be more giving, compassionate people by the way he has led his life. His light will continue to glow in our hearts forever.

James is the loving husband of 57 years to Barbara; dearest father of Maria (Rudy) Moralez, James (Diann) Shereda Jr., Anthony (Patrice) Shereda and Mary (Tom) Schumacher; cherished grandfather of Anthony Jr., Ryan, Alexandra, Andrew, Kristina, Amelia, Christopher and Sophia; dear great grandfather of Arabelle; beloved brother of Kenneth, David, Carole, Robert (Paula) and the late Fred and Jack; and beloved uncle of many loving nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at Faulmann & Walsh Golden Rule Funeral Home on Thursday 4pm - 8pm, Friday from 2pm - 8pm with a 7pm Scripture service. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 1pm St. Pio of Pietrelcina, 18720 13 Mile Rd, Roseville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be addressed to St. Vincent de Paul of St. Pio Parish, the Solanus Casey Center, 1780 Mt. Elliot, Detroit, Michigan 48207 or Kids on the Go, 23500 Pare Street, St. Clair Shores, MI 48080 in James' memory.

I was very sorry to get the news about Jim. I really enjoyed visiting with him when I would stop by QMI. He couldn't have been more welcoming and friendly. Thoughts and prayers from Wisconsin to his family and friends.

We are so sorry to read about Jim’s passing. My fondest memory of Jim was when we chaired the Fun Fair, the one that brought the 40 year flood. Jim just took it in stride and moved on making the best out of a bad situation. Although we no longer are a part of St A’s, we always treasure the friendships and wonderful memories belonging to that family. We were so happy, after many years we saw Jim & Barb at a high school band competition this past October. Who would have guessed that would be the last time our paths would cross. Our deepest sympathies goes to the entire Shereda family.

Jim (and his lovely wife, Barb) were instrumental in shaping my career path of service within the credit union industry, personally and professionally. Their devotion to family and community were trully inspirational, and I am grateful for the opportunity to know them both. Heartfelt wishes to the Shereda family in celebrating Jim's life and legacy.

All our love, Mary Alice Klozik and Dave Klozik
