Thomas August Renkert Sr., resident of Fraser, died peacefully February 6, 2019 surrounded by the love of his family. He was 90 years of age.

Thomas was born in Detroit, Michigan on November 4, 1928, son of the late August and Elizabeth (Schnieder) Renkert. He was united in marriage to his beloved wife, Elsie Patricia Canfield, on November 5, 1948 at St. Peter Lutheran Church of East Detroit. The couple made their home in Eastpointe and was blessed with five wonderful children of whom he loved and cherished. Tom had a successful career as an accountant for 35 dedicated years for BorgWarner. He was a Detroit sports fan who loved the Tigers. He enjoyed fishing in the warm summer months and loved snowmobiling during the winter. Tom was a devoted Christian and dedicated his time in his church, St. Peter Lutheran Church. He helped where needed and was on the Board of Education for many years. He was also a long standing member of the Lutheran Fraternal Association and was involved in the Kiwanis Club. Tom was past president of the National Credit Association of Detroit. Above all, he was a family man who always provided for his family and always put them first. He was a devoted husband, a caring father and proud grandfather and great-grandfather. Tom will be deeply missed and his light will continue to shine in our hearts forever.

Tom is the loving husband of 70 years to Elsie; dearest father of Karen (John) Westendorf, Donna (Mark) Angott, Gloria Renkert, Thomas (Becky) Renkert Jr. and Nancy (Norman) Colby; cherished grandfather of JT (Melanie) Westendorf, Jennifer Westendorf, Stephanie (Mike) McPherson, Shannon (Matthew) Lorenz, Joshua (Courtney) Colby, Melissa Colby, Ashley Colby, Sarah Renkert, Allison (Alan) Stevens and Alex Renkert; and six beautiful great grandchildren; dear brother of Mary (Ray) Chuhran and the late Betty Akers; and special friend of the family Becki Stein.

Visitation will be held at Faulmann and Walsh Golden Rule Funeral Home, 32814 Utica Road, Fraser, Friday 4pm - 8pm. Funeral will be held at St. Peter Lutheran Church of Eastpointe on Saturday at 11am with additional visitation 10am -11am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be addressed to St. Peter Lutheran Church of Eastpointe. Share memories at
