Richard was born on November 10, 1936 in Detroit, Michigan, son of the late Howard and Dorothy (Garner) Robertson. He honorably served our country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. During this time, he was united in marriage to his beautiful wife, Kathryn Ann, on May 15, 1954 at Messiah Lutheran Church of Detroit. The couple made their home in Detroit and was blessed with three wonderful children of whom he loved and cherished. Richard was a loyal, reliable man who became a Firefighter for Detroit in 1956 for 27 dedicated years, retiring in 1983. When he wasn't working, he kept his hands busy with painting, carpentry work and giving a helping hand where needed. Richard enjoyed watching and reading about history and learning about the wars. He was a proud member of the American Legion Post 161 for many years. Above all, he was a family man and made sure his children never went without. Richard understood the value of friendship and was known for his honesty and gentle ways. He will be greatly missed and his light will continue to glow in our hearts forever.
Richard is the loving husband of the late Kathryn; dearest father of Jim (Laurie) Robertson, Laura (Bob Douglas) Freestone and the late Richard Jr.; dear father-in-law of Lori and Dianna; cherished grandfather of Brandon (Kristen), Adalee (Aaron), Conner (Mackenzie), Jane, Mary, Andrea, Katie (Angelo) and five beautiful great grandchildren; and brother of the late Martha and Karen.
