Obituary

Maryann Swartz, resident of Bruce Township, died peacefully October 14, 2019 surrounded by the love of her family. She was 58 years of age. Mary fought a courageous battle with cancer and has now won the crown of victory with her Lord and Savior.

Mary was born on May 5, 1961 in Mt. Clemens, daughter of Walter and Maryanna (Rozevink) Schnidewolf. She was raised by her late aunt and uncle, Bud and Eleanor Holcomb. Mary was united in marriage to her devoted husband, Jeff Swartz, in 1986 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The couple was blessed with two beautiful children of whom she loved and cherished. Mary began a 40 year career with McLaren Macomb Hospital as a Diagnostic Imaging Office Coordinator. She loved the great outdoors; taking all of God's creation in by walking, tending to her garden and bird watching. Mary enjoyed touring around Michigan and Canada at all the different Light Houses and waterfalls. Her greatest joy was her family and enjoyed cooking for them and treasured every moment in their company. Mary lived life with love and purpose; putting the Lord first. She was a loyal woman with a heart of gold. Mary will be deeply missed and her light will continue to shine in our hearts forever.

Mary is the best friend and wife of Jeff; cherished mother of Melinda and Joshua; dearest daughter of Walter (Marcia) Schindewolf and the late Maryanna; and dear sister of Mark (Jessica) Schindewolf. She is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her uncle Richard (Sharon) Rozevink.

Visitation will be held at Faulmann & Walsh Golden Rule Funeral Home, 32814 Utica Road, Fraser, Friday from 2pm - 8pm and Saturday 10am until the time of funeral at 11am. In lieu on flowers, memorial contributions may be addressed to the American Cancer Society.

Maryann was always kind to me whenever I spent time with her. She gave me her roller skates that I enjoyed for several years as a teen. She introduced my sister to the band, Kiss, that ended up being her favorite. When she was expecting Mindy I embroidered a bib for her and after she was born, I sent diaper coupons that I found when clipping mine. I remember helping her, Jeff and the kids move into their first house in St. Clair Shores and how cute Mindy and Josh were. The last time I saw her was in June at Carol Holcomb’s memorial and she had such a lovely smile on her face. My condolences to all her loved ones and friends!

Over 40 years ago Mary & I met at what was then Mt Clemens General Hospital. We were the same age, working in Nutritional Services. She started 6 months before me & was one of the most welcoming people I first encountered, I knew immediately she was truly a kind, genuine person and through the years, she never changed. She introduced me to her Uncle Bud who was also working at the hospital & it was clear she came from good, down to earth family. Shortly after I started at the hospital, Mary moved to Radiology as a clerk (guess who followed). We spent many years working together, I met my husband, she met hers (Jeff, another great guy), we ended up being pregnant at the same time & we were teased that there must have been something on the toilet seat as there was also a 3rd Radiology clerk pregnant then too! Our boss at that time was a little nervous because we were a much smaller dept. we both changed hats a few times but continued our service in Radiology/Diagnostic Imaging. It was our calling & when asked how long I’ve worked at the hospital, I always include “me & Mary, well she’s been here about 6 months longer than I have”. I will miss saying that and I will miss seeing Mary’s sweet face. Sometimes she would have a cat that ate the canary smile & her laugh was one of a kind. She worked hard, a dedicated employee, always trying her best to be fair & treat others as she’d like to be treated, Even when she had her own personal battles to fight. Mary, it was a pleasure to know you, you will be missed & the good Lord will surely welcome your sweet soul. RIP
