Obituary

Donald “Jack” Maness of Warren, Michigan, beloved father, husband, brother and devoted friend passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Monday, November 18, 2019 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 85 years old.
Jack was born September 16, 1934, in Scott County, Virginia, to the late Jessie and Lucian Maness.

Jack had a proud service heritage. He joined the military at age 15, where he spent two years with the Virginia National Guard. He then enlisted in the United States Navy at age 17 and was eventually deployed to go overseas during the Korean War. Jack continued his commitment to his country as a volunteer for the Auxiliary Coast Guard until his passing.
Beyond his military service, one might say he truly was a “Jack of all trades.” He was a proud lifetime member of the Millwrights Local Union 1102 and the Center Line Lodge No. 550. He was an accomplished Real Estate Agent and consultant for many of his closest friends and family members. He was also an entrepreneur, a limo driver, a movie star and even attempted a pilot’s license until he witnessed a small crash that made him quickly change his mind.
Jack was a musician, traveling between radio stations to play with his sister, Jill; ultimately resulting in a short stint as a radio show host himself.

It was music that may have embodied Jack entirely. Lively, memorable, entertaining. It showed in his incredible guitar and banjo talent and it lives on in every melody, note and chord that he once played. If you close your eyes and listen really close, you may still hear them, Darling. His Southern roots apparent when he said that special word.

So many hats for one simple Southern gentleman. But most important of all, the hat of a loving friend and family member. He cherished his time with these more than anything.

Jack is survived by his devoted wife, Maureen Maness, with whom he shared over 20 years filled with many wonderful
adventures and memories. Loving Father / Grandfather of Pamela Maness Miller, her husband Barry Miller and their children Heather Mullins and Christopher Mullins; Donald “Donnie” Jack Maness Jr., his wife Angela Maness and their children Dustin Maness, Brody Jack Maness, Gregory Dodd Jr., Emily Dodd; Jacqueline Foster; Jessie Maness Lawrence, her husband Christopher Lawrence and their children James Lawrence (deceased), Shayla Lawrence, Riley Lawrence; Jackie Maness and her children Kaitlyn Doron and Kyan Lake. Loving brother to Joyce Richardson, her husband Edward Richardson; Donna “Jill” Hyde (deceased). Proud Great Grandfather of Jordan Mullins, Sailor Staiger, Levi Mullins, Copelen Dodd, Emberley Maness, Brooklyn Dodd, Rhett Dodd and Abram Jack Maness. Loving Stepfather / Step-grandfather to Desiree Schulz and her children Mason Stachowicz and Lucas Schulz, T.C. Stachowicz and Sarah Smith and her husband, Jeremy Smith. Further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Friends and family will gather to honor Jack’s life on Saturday, December 14th, 9:30 am at St. Faustina Catholic Church, 14025 Twelve Mile Road, Warren. A luncheon will follow the memorial service at MacRay Harbor from Noon – 3pm, 30675 North River Road, Harrison Charter Township.
Life is tough, my darling, but so are you.
