Larry was born in Detroit, Michigan on November 30, 1943, son of the late Robert and Vera (Schultz) Muehlbrandt. He went to Mt. Calvary Lutheran School and was a 1962 Lutheran High East graduate. Larry served our country honorably in the U.S. Navy. Shortly after, he became a Detroit Police Officer. Larry was part of the Plain Clothes Cruisers, the original "Big Four." After retiring from the police department, Larry then worked for Saratoga and Holy Cross Hospital in security to conclude his career. He was quite the perfectionist and put his talents to work by starting a wallpaper and painting business. Larry was very meticulous and was known for his well-manicured lawn, beautiful gardens and his Koi pond. He loved the great outdoors and camping with his friends and family. Larry enjoyed hunting, fishing and his dogs. He loved riding his motorcycle and watching NASCAR. Above all, he loved his family.
Larry was united in marriage to his beautiful and devoted wife, Marie Moore, on June 4, 1966 at Resurrection Lutheran Church of Detroit. The couple made their home in Detroit and their union was blessed with two beautiful children of whom he loved and cherished. A hardworking man, Larry provided for his family and raised them in a loving home with Christian values. When the grandchildren came, they became the apple of his eye. They made many fond memories and funny stories that his grandchildren will always treasure. Larry was caring and would always lend a helping hand when needed. He was a quiet, humble and strong man. Larry’s smile could light up a room. His love of Jesus and family were always evident. We are truly grateful for the life that Larry has lived. A life of integrity and kindness to others. He will be deeply missed.
Larry is the loving husband of Marie; dearest father of Kelly and Robert Monroe and Todd Muehlbrandt; cherished grandfather of Garrett (Claire), Austin, Elaina and Brayden Monroe and Hannah and Jonathan Muehlbrandt; beloved brother of Roberta (John) Shannon, Lowell (Carol) and Roger (Fran) Muehlbrandt; and dear uncle to many nieces and nephews.
A private funeral with family will be held at St. John Lutheran Church of Fraser. The funeral will be taped and posted at a later date. Please share condolences on Larry's Memory Wall and please keep the family in your prayers. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be addressed to the family and sent directly to them, the church or the funeral home.
