James Robert Stoetzer, resident of Clinton Township, died peacefully, Saturday, April 25, 2020 after a brief battle with cancer. He was 78 years of age.

Jim was born in Detroit, Michigan on September 9, 1941, son of the late Fred and Helen (Schurig) Stoetzer. He was married to his loving wife, Karen, on January 12, 1963 at Bethany Lutheran Church of Detroit, where they attended grade school together. Jim had a successful career as a tax accountant for General Dynamics, retiring after 39 years of dedicated service. Jim was a longtime member of St. John Lutheran Church of Fraser, where he recently received recognition of Layperson of the Year for his for his 50 years of service as an usher. Jim was also a longtime member of the Eastside Lutheran Bowling League and the City Lutheran Bowling League. After retirement, he volunteered driving for Interfaith Volunteer Caregivers. Jim enjoyed watching sports, especially the Detroit teams. He also attended all of his grandchildren's sports. Jim and his wife, Karen, traveled frequently, enjoying cruises and road trips. Jim will be deeply missed and his light will continue to glow in our hearts.

Jim was the loving husband of 57 years to Karen; dearest father of Lisa (Brian) Barbish, Jill (David) Allen and Mark (Melanie) Stoetzer; and cherished grandfather of Andrew, Nathan, Sean, Nicholas and Madeline. He is also survived by his brother, Donald (Donna) Stoetzer and nephew, Paul.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be addressed to St. John Lutheran of Fraser, Branching Out.

Private Service will be held at St. John Lutheran Church with immediate family only. Burial will take place at Glen Eden Cemetery of Macomb. A Memorial Service will be held for everyone at a later date. Please continue to keep the family in your prayers and thoughts during this most difficult time. Share memories at

He was such a familiar face the first thing Sunday morning handing out the bulletins. I know he will be greatly missed.
