Obituary

Shirley Mae Jokinen, a longtime resident of Fraser, was received into the loving arms of Jesus and her loving husband, Reino on May 14, in Wm.Beaumont Hospital of Troy. She was 88 years of age.

Shirley was born in Norway, Michigan on May 21, 1931, the daughter of the late John and Katherine (Sappanen) Korvela. In Michigan's North, Shirley was united in marriage to her beloved Reino Jokinen in 1950. The couple moved to Fraser in 1955. Shirley worked in the Fraser Public Schools Food Programs for 30 years. She was a very dedicated member of Bethany Lutheran Church for many years and loved joining in all the activities they had. She enjoyed working on her lawn and was thrilled when she obtained a tractor. Shirley enjoyed her trips to the casino and playing cards with her friends and family. She was a life-time member of the Finnish Association in Farmington Hills and spent most of her time at the Finn Camp in Wixom Michigan where she and her four sons and many of the grandchildren owned summer camps. Most of all she cherished her time with the grandchildren. Known for her great attitude, friendly and willingness to help others, she will be deeply missed.

Shirley is survived by her loving children, Gary (Debra),Dennis, Michael (Beverly), and Wayne (Robyn) ;her 10 adored grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Reino, in 1991; by her son, Douglas; and siblings, Earl, Richard and Edwin; Laila and Dorothy.

A Life Celebration will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions in her honor to Bethany Lutheran Church would be appreciate. Share memories with the family at www.faulmannwalsh.com

My Mom and Dad, Ida & Waino Salmi, were good friends of Reino & Shirley as well as her mom Katie. We used to visit Shirley and Ray (Reino) during our annual summer vacation to Detroit. I remember their kids Gary, Dennis, Michael, Douglas, and Wayne and the good times we had there. RIP Shirley.
