Emma Louise Burgess, longtime resident of Fraser, died peacefully surrounded by the love of her family on September 11, 2020. She was 81 years of age.
Emma was born in Detroit, Michigan, daughter of the late Stephen and Irene (Slater) Mowery. She was united in marriage to her beloved husband, James Thomas Burgess, July 19, 1958 in Detroit. The couple made their home in Fraser in 1975. Their union was blessed with three wonderful children of whom they loved and cherished. A mother raising her children, Emma constantly gave her best and was always there to make sure they had everything they needed. And then her grandchildren came and they became the center of her world- she was the epitome of a loving, giving and doting grandmother. Emma was very active at her church, Bethany Lutheran of Roseville. She enjoyed helping where needed and loved bowling on the church league. Emma was an avid reader who enjoyed playing pinochle; and in her later years, bingo. Above all, she lived life with love and purpose; and the compassion she extended to others will always be remembered. Emma "Lou" will be deeply missed and her light will continue to glow in our hearts forever.
Emma is the beloved wife of the late James; dearest mother of Karen (Thomas) Bowling, Bill (Donna) Burgess and the late James Burgess; dear mother-in-law of Denise Burgess; cherished grandmother of Brent (Sarah), Stephen (Kathryn), Rachel and Emilee; and loving great grandmother of Alice; and sister of the late Stephen Mowery and Diane Hawley.
