Obie Alexander Franklin Jr., known to all as Toby, longtime resident of Warren, died peacefully at home, surrounded by the love of his family on October 29, 2020. He was 75 years of age.

Toby was born in Valdese, North Carolina on February 21, 1945. After high school graduation, he was drafted into the U.S. Army to serve our country in the Vietnam War. Toby was united in marriage to his beloved wife, Shela Carrow, on June 22, 1968 at Tabernacle Baptist Church in Hazel Park, MI. The couple made their home in Warren in 1972 and their union was blessed with two beautiful daughters, whom he loved and cherished. Toby was knowledgeable about auto parts, and put his talents to work as a sales representative for Clawson Auto Supply for many years. He loved horse racing and looked forward to his annual trip to the Kentucky Derby, as well as, making the rounds to the local harness racetracks. Toby was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed baseball and NASCAR. He loved country music, especially the classics, and enjoyed attending concerts with his girls whenever he could. Toby was a family man who loved spending time with them and always looked forward to family vacations. He will always be known for his easygoing nature and smile, and was always ready to have a good time with family and friends. Above all, he was a loving and devoted husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather and friend who will be deeply missed. His light will continue to glow in our hearts forever.

Toby is the loving husband of Shela; dearest father of Sheri (Michael) Schoemann and Vicki (Kevin) Santa; cherished grandfather of Michael and Caelyn Schoemann; and dear brother of Pearl (Kenneth) Umfleet.

A Celebration of Toby’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be addressed to the Cardinal Hospice, 1097 S. Lapeer Road, Suite A, Oxford, MI 48371 or the Vietnam Veterans of American Chapter 154, 18025 15 Mile Road, Clinton Township, MI 48035
