Obituary

Janet Mae Sherock (nee Young), a longtime resident of Roseville, passed away peacefully in her home on Monday, November 16, 2020. She was 79 years old.

Janet was born on August 1, 1941 in Sandusky, Ohio. Growing up in Sandusky, she spent many summer days enjoying the many activities at Cedar Point. Janet was a gifted chef who used her culinary skills in many restaurants in Michigan and Florida, later working at Arc Service of Macomb and Marriott. She was a very loving and giving person who spent much of her time helping the less fortunate, and was an especially active volunteer for the Motor City Mitten Mission, where she crocheted sleeping mats for the homeless. Janet also loved to maintain beautiful flower beds at her home, and also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, cooking, reading, listening to music, and above all, time spent with family and friends. She was a truly courageous woman who would let nothing stop her, even into the final days of her life. Her smile and kindness will truly be missed by all who knew her, but memories of her will continue on in all who loved her.

Janet is survived by her loving sons, Matthew (Ronda) Sherock, David Sherock, and Andrew Kitchen; six beloved grandchildren, and dear siblings Linda Young and Holly Gillbeau; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, children Daniel Sherock, Bobby Sherock, and Susan Sherock, and brother Robert Young.

Memorial contributions may be addressed to the Motor City Mitten Mission in Janet's memory. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to the Faulmann & Walsh Golden Rule Funeral Home, 32814 Utica Road, Fraser, Michigan 48026. Share memories with the family at faulmannwalsh.com

This sadden me to learn that Jan went home to be with our Father. She not only was a friend but a member of our church, New Life Baptist Church and a fellow volunteer at The Motor City Mitten Mission. I first thought about our sandwich making. lol We had an assembly line process and she always told me I was going to fast with getting the bread ready for her to add the meat. lol I always had to get past her gruff tone at times and remember where her heart was. It was with helping others. Made me tear up. And all the beautiful stuff she made with those plastic bags. She definitely made it into an art. I hope she knew how worthwhile her contributions were. 💘💘😢😢

I was saddened to read of Jan's passing. I loved working with her at Motor City Mitten Mission. She was quite a talented lady in the crochet dept! AND feisty as well. She also participated in making sandwiches for outreach later that day. She never hesitated in giving her opinion about how to make them! She will be missed!
