Marion Elva Sommavilla, longtime resident of Fraser, died peacefully surrounded by the love of her family on February 5, 2021. She was 85 years of age.
Marion was born on December 31, 1935 in Detroit, Michigan, a delightful daughter of Harold and Yvonne (DeBacker) Eckert. She was united in marriage to her beloved husband, John Sommavilla Jr., in 1955 and their union was blessed with two wonderful children of whom they loved and cherished. The couple built their home in Fraser in 1958. Marion dedicated her life to her family and was the epitome of a great mother, doting grandmother and devoted wife. Her family always came first and she made sure her children were raised with Christian values in a loving home. Marion was a sweetheart that had a kindred spirit and a heart of gold. Marion was an excellent baker and enjoyed sharing her bake goods with company and friends. She also enjoyed cooking and was known for her Clam Spaghetti. Her greatest joy was having her family, all together, gathered around the kitchen table with the warm smell of her banana nut bread and fresh brewed coffee. Marion lived life with a purpose. She was not only an inspiration, but, a role model to her children and grandchildren, and to the countless people that she has touched in her lifetime. Marion understood the value of friendship and the compassion and love that she extended to others was a blessing. Although we grieve her passing, we are eternally grateful for our beautiful matriarch, Marion Sommavilla, who taught us to be more caring, compassionate and loving by the life she led. Her light will continue to glow in our hearts forever.
Marion is the devoted wife of the late John Jr.; dearest mother of Cheryl (James) Tignanelli and John M. (Kristie) Sommavilla; cherished grandmother of Tracy, Lauren (Casey), Scott (Stacy), Katie (Jordan) and Carly; adored great grandmother of Nolen, Finley, Olivia, Talon, Jace and Landry; and beloved sister of Donald Eckert and the late John Eckert .
