Obituary

David Robert Phillips, a longtime resident of Clinton Twp., passed away suddenly on March 31, 2021. He was 48 years old.

Dave was born on April 27, 1972 in Arlington, Virginia. After completing college, Dave started a career in information technology, which lead him to eventually found Podcast Detroit and IT in the D. Dave met and married Anita Giglio on November 13, 2004 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Emmett, Michigan. The couple made their first home in Farmington Hills before settling in Clinton Township. Dave enjoyed what he did and loved giving countless people a voice through podcasts and networking. He will be greatly missed, and his light will continue to glow in our hearts forever.

Dave is survived by his wife Anita; cherished children Samantha and Jonathan; dear sister Jennifer (Shane) Muscato; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother Gail Love Phillips, brother Michael Love and grandparents Tommy and Josephine Thompson.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be addressed to the family or to the ASPCA.

I met Dave at Secure World six years ago. He was set up doing a live taping of IT in the D. Until then; I had always been the behind-the-scenes planner for community outreach at UDM. So this was my first public speaking event and interview. He helped me to relax and focus on the message, and I'll never forget his help. For the last two years, I had the privilege of seeing and talking with him once a month, and his way of putting people at ease never changed. He will be greatly missed, T

I knew Dave through our shared love of Star Wars, back when he created a popular fansite called Echo Station. We called him our Fearless Leader, and he was the heart of a group of crazy fans who have kept up with each other nearly 30 years now. He knew how to liven up and room and how to tell a great story. He will be sorely missed.

I am very sorry to hear of Dave’s passing yesterday! David Phillips memory will always be a blessing!! To his family my sincere condolences. To all of us who knew him, we should consider ourselves lucky and fortunate to be in his light. He helped so many of us with the start of the Pink Slip Parties back in early 2000’s to what grew into ITinTheD with Bob Waltenspiel, his partner in crime. From TEDX talks to Detroit Shipping Company and Podcast Detroit, his light shines bright! R.I.P. Dave 🖤
