The world lost one of the good ones on Sunday, April 11, 2021. Mark Joseph Lietke was an intelligent, caring and giving man. A man who was determined in helping make this world a better place; Mark was the ROCK of his community, friends and family. He put everyone's needs above his own personal needs and not only knew what to do, but how to get it done! He appreciated and cherished the relationships he established and understood the value of friendship. A true patriot, he was and deeply believed in world peace. He valued all of the beauty on earth and all of God's creatures; and was steadfast in cultivating God's blessings. Above all, he was a family man who loved life and lived life to the fullest. He loved and knew love.

Mark was born on February 9, 1965 in Detroit, Michigan, son of John aka Jack and Dorothy (Hacala) Lietke. He always loved planes and was a Commercial Pilot and Flight Instructor; he saw the world from the top and received his Bachelor of Science in Aviation from Western Michigan University. Mark loved to fly and helped others learn for years. He would fall in love with his soul mate, Karen Marie Ward; and they married on May 9, 1993 in a large airplane that his brother Greg piloted while flying over Lake St. Clair. Their union was blessed with two amazing children who he absolutely loved and cherished. Mark raised his children to be as he was, strong, confident and giving. Alongside his wife, they were able to establish their company, Campbell and Shaw Steel of Marysville in 2012 which is a success. Mark loved to give back to his community and friends. He was a member of the New Baltimore Civic Club, Lions Club and the New Baltimore Downtown Development Authority. He was a longtime member of the Huron Pointe Sportsmen's Club and a member of the NRA. Mark had a love of his wood smoker and food; which brought us to his amazing smoke fest! He would cook from his heart for all to enjoy that was his passion and gift to whoever was hungry. His meals will always be remembered as his commitment to excellence a legacy for sure.

To know Mark was to love him! His love and compassion he extended to others was a blessing to all. He will be greatly missed and his light will continue to glow in our hearts forever.

Mark was the soul mate, husband and friend to Karen; cherished father of Lottie and Joseph; loving son of John aka Jack and Dorothy; beloved brother of Greg (Fran)Lietke, Keith Lietke and Pam (Mike) Podgorski; dearest son-in-law of Dave and Mary Ward; and dear brother-in-law of Deborah (Randy) Burks and Dave (Anna) Ward. He is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Mark's life will be held at a later date. Please, in lieu of flowers, keep the family in your prayers and thoughts. If you choose you may make contributions in Marks honor addressed to the Anchor Bay Community Foundation, P.O. Box 88, New Baltimore, MI 48047. Please share memories and photos with family at

I first met Mark as an entrepreneur and business man. I quickly learned he was so much more. Our meetings started off with business – but always ended with one of Mark’s stories. From airplanes, cars, and motorcycles to community involvement, patriotism, friends and family. He knew everything and everyone. I learned something from Mark every time we spoke. At the end of one meeting he gave me a lesson on Megalodons – ancient / pre-historic sharks. I sat back and listened to his Encyclopædia-britannica-esque knowledge of Megalodons. All I could say was “Mark – how do you possibly know all this stuff? You must be Batman?” Mark was even more than Batman – he was a friend to everyone who knew him. I miss him. John A. Bourget

Mark was a colleague who manifested the best of professional and thoughtful businessmen that I have experienced in my career. I felt immediately the friendliness and charity that he demonstrated in his personal relationships. I am saddened and at a loss to hear of his too early passing. This world is the poorer for his absence.

I am still in shock and disbelief from this tragic news. My deepest sympathies to Karen, the kids, and the entire Lietke family at the loss of their loving husband, compassionate father, great patriot, successful businessman, and pillar of the community. There is no doubt that he is now resting in the hand of God... You will be missed more than mere words can express and it certainly was a privilege to know you... Rest in Peace my dear friend...

Mark was certainly one of a kind and loved by many! He was always willing to lend a hand and so involved with his community. He will certainly be missed, however we have many great memories and he will always be in our heart!

I was privileged to meet Mark through his generous contribution of the HPSA's float entry in the Bay-Rama parade. Trailer, truck and the use of the Lietke home in the process of decorating the float. His input in design and construction was inspirational and he will be missed. You will be in my prayers.
