Obituary

Patrick Roy McDermitt, longtime resident of Fraser, passed away May 4, 2021. He was 59 years of age.

Patrick was born on July 17, 1961 in Flint, Michigan, son of Richard and Elizabeth Ann (Gumm) McDermitt. He was united in marriage to his wife, Renee Wrubel, on October 15, 1988 at Ascension Church of Warren. The couple made their home in Fraser and was blessed with two wonderful children of whom he loved and cherished. Patrick was an Engineer for over 34 dedicated years for FCA. He was a master at many traits because he spent his whole life learning and wanting always gain more knowledge along the way. When he started a project, he was all in! Patrick loved brewing beer and even grew his own hops. His culinary skills were exceptional; and he loved to barbecue and bake, especially bread. One of his greatest joys was having everyone over and enjoy his fruits of labor. Patrick enjoyed carpentry and you could often find him redesigning his home or helping others with theirs. He always looked forward to the warm summer months of golf and the winter for hunting. Patrick also enjoyed traveling with his wife and was always excited about their next road trip.

Above all, Patrick loved his family. He will always be known for his ability to listen, teach and give great words of wisdom. Patrick lived life with love and purpose; and the compassion he extended to others was a blessing to all. He will be deeply missed and his light will continue to glow in our hearts forever.

Patrick is the loving husband of Renee; cherished father of Shawn (Crystal) Wrubel and Shannon (Matt Somoski) McDermitt; beloved son of Elizabeth and the late Richard; dear brother of Richard (Debbie) and the late Michael; dear brother-in- law of the late Gregory (Barb) Wrubel, Brian (Sandra Moussiaux) Wrubel, Shawn (Maureen) Wrubel, Allen Wrubel, and Becky Wrubel; and dearest uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Pat was the type of man that everybody wishes they could work with, and work for. His vast knowledge and interest in learning as well as imparting that knowledge was evident at all times. He was truly and wholeheartedly invested in the succes of others, which will live on. My condolences to Renee, Shawn and Shannon, as they were everything to him. My heart is with each of you.

The memories of uncle Pat will live forever,
The many parties at his house for birthdays, Christmas,
Grandma and Stosh’s millstone birthdays are part of my childhood and I remember them warmly
Watching him and my dad working together on projects while drinking and discussing beer choices made me laugh , now they are back at it again
Godspeed Aunt Renee , Shawn and Shannon
