Bob was born in Detroit on February 26, 1946, the son of the late Robert Sr. and Eleanor (Curnow) Scholl. He was baptized in April 1946 at First Lutheran Church of Windsor in Ontario, Canada, and confirmed in the Faith in June of 1960 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church of Eastpointe. He attended elementary school at St. Peter's Lutheran School and graduated from Lutheran High School East of Harper Woods in 1964. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Education in 1968 from Concordia Teacher's College in Seward, Nebraska, where he met his loving wife, Mary Kay Strutt. They married on July 20, 1968 at Gethsemane Lutheran Church in St. Paul, Minnesota.
While in college, Bob worked as the cameraman and recording engineer for the college TV station. He did his student teaching at Trinity Lutheran School of Indianapolis. His first call to the ministry of teaching was at the same school, where he taught 7th grade and served as the Assistant Principal. His second call was to St. Peter-Immanuel Lutheran School of Decatur in Indiana, where he taught 7th and 8th grade, and served as Principal. Bob served on the Indiana District Board of Directors and was on the Indiana District Superintendent's Task Force. During his summers off, he worked driving bulldozers and earth-movers, installing farm ponds, and enjoyed many vacations with his family.
Following the birth of his two sons, Bob graduated from St. Francis University of Fort Wayne with his Master of Science in Education, majoring in School Administration. Shortly after, Bob received his third call to Bethlehem Lutheran Church and School as Principal and 8th grade teacher. He developed the "Dollars and Sense" Economics Curriculum for the Michigan Association of Nonpublic Schools convention. Bob served on the Detroit Lutheran High School Association Board of Directors and the City of Roseville Economic Development Corporation. Because of health-related conditions, Bob resigned from teaching in 1997. For a short time, he worked as Account Manager for a manufacturing company in Warren but knew that he still had a calling in church work. In 1999 the family transferred their membership to Hope Lutheran in Warren, where he was installed as Parish Assistant at the church and continued serving his Lord and Savior.
An avid reader, Bob loved word puzzles and recently started playing the Ukulele. He was a very humble and faithful Servant of the Lord. Bob will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him, as he touched many lives teaching and serving the Lord.
Bob is survived by his loving and devoted wife of nearly 53 years, Mary Kay; his loving sons, Jason (Rachel) and Cory (Daniela) and by his adoring grandchildren, Parker, Zachary, Leila and Lucas. He was preceded in death by his sister Joanne Scholl, his mother Eleanor and his father Robert.
A memorial service will be held at a future date. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Bob’s honor to the St. John Lutheran Church and School One Legacy program. Two of his grandchildren attend St. John in Rochester, and a Christ-centered Lutheran education was dear to his heart.
