Manuel Richard Roybal, a longtime resident of St. Clair Shores and formerly Detroit, passed away suddenly on Monday, May 30, 2022. He was 83 years old.
Manuel was born on October 18, 1938 in Salida, Colorado to Rubel and Mildred (nee Patrone) Roybal. After graduating from high school, Manuel served his country honorably in the United States Army. After completing his assignment at the Jefferson Detroit Post, Manuel settled in Detroit. Soon after, he met and married the love of his life, Lillian on June 20, 1964. Manuel worked in numerous positions at Chrysler, retiring after 36 years of dedicated service in 2010. Outside of his work, he enjoyed spending time with his family, watching NASCAR races, attending car shows, listening to rock and roll music, attending concerts, working on projects with his son Jon, and staying active as a retiree in the United Auto Workers. Manuel will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Manuel is survived by his loving wife Lillian Roybal; beloved grandchildren Joe Roybal and Mindy (Steve) Krantz; cherished great-grandchildren Phoenix, Griffin, Draco, and Theodore.; dear sister Irene Bustos; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Jon Roybal, and siblings Bernice Martinez , Lloyd Roybal, and John Roybal.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 8, 2022 from 4-7pm with a funeral service at 7pm at the Faulmann & Walsh Golden Rule Funeral Home, 32814 Utica Road, Fraser, Michigan 48026. Private interment at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Detroit. Memorial contributions may be addressed to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital.
